Conan Properties International and Panini S.p.A. are pleased to announce they have entered into a long term master licensing agreement for Conan the Barbarian comics. Conan Properties, the owner of the character Conan the Barbar- ian, created by Robert E. Howard, have assigned all comic publishing rights to Panini, one of the largest publishers of comic books worldwide, in print and digital for all countries worldwide, except English language.

Panini is one of Conan Properties’ longest serving licensees, and has been publishing Conan’s comic book portfolio in select territories for almost a quarter of a century, initially publishing the classic Marvel Comics material during Marvel ownership from 1994 to 2000, then with direct agreements with CPI and Dark Horse.

This new Master agreement widens the scope of the license to all territories worldwide (non-English) and to the entire historical catalogue of this character as presented in comic book and graphic novel format. From the ground breaking Marvel comics and magazines of the 1970-2000 era (CONAN THE BARBARIAN, SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN et al), to the many hit series and miniseries produced by Dark Horse Comics in 2003-2018, and then to the new, relaunched Marvel production slated to launch in 2019 in the USA, by the current generation of visual literature superstars.

Under this Master agreement, Panini will publish the new Conan comics in many main international territories; Spain, France, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Turkey and Serbia, More territories will follow soon, both directly and in partnership with top publishers worldwide, while continuing to keep alive the historical archive of contents in collections, comic magazines and partworks.

Panini will work in synergy with Conan Properties, who is currently in the process of expanding the reach of Conan the Barbarian via video games (Funcom’s “Conan Exiles”) and the upcoming live action TV series to be created for Amazon Video by top Hollywood creatives (Game of Thrones’ Miguel Sapochnik). Panini will also be developing original comic book content with European and Latin American artists, to complement the dazzling array of existing and upcoming stories with new graphic novels tapping into new visual universes.

International rights into Dark Horse Comics 2003-2018 miniseries and the new Marvel production will become available for sublicensing as of January 1st 2019.

Fredrik Malmberg, President of CPI, commented the news “With a growing international audience for the Conan char- acter we are eager to manifest his position as a top comic book icon. We have been amazed at Panini’s growth around the world and believe this enlarged collaboration will be great for fans and for our other partners.“

Marco M. Lupoi, Publishing Director at Panini, added“Panini has been a devoted Conan publisher for almost 25 years, and we consider this character one of the headstones of our publishing portfolio. We are thrilled to be part of the expansion of the brand and the relaunch of the Conan comic books, and we cannot wait to bring this character to new audiences and countries.”
